Johsua 24:15

What does Johsua 24:15 say about choices

15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
Meaning:
Here we find Joshua, one of Israel's most faithful leaders, clearly calling the people to make a choice between serving other gods, or serving the one, true God. Then Joshua sets the example with this declaration: "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Today we face the same dilemma. Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (NLT) Maybe money is not a problem for you. Perhaps something else is dividing your service to God. Like Joshua, have you made a clear choice for yourself and your family to serve the Lord alone?

1 John 2:15

1 John

What does 1 John 2:15 say about the world

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Meaning:
Following his words to three distinct sets of believers, the Gentiles (not in covenant with God), the Jews (under the law, the original covenant with God), and the Church (under God's new covenant of grace through Jesus Christ). First Corinthians 10:32 names the three groups in a single verse, John instructs all three groups not to be overly attached to worldly (non-spiritual) things. Believers are to love God and one another, not the world or possessions. The term "world" is not a reference to the planet, or even to all material things. In this context, the term "world" is a reference to the fallen, man-centered system, or way of life. John gives a specific definition of this term in verse 16. Someone who loves the way this world operates, including its control by sin, is a person who cannot also focus on the Father's will.

Matthew 4:17

What Does It Mean To Repent?

14 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Meaning:
Repentance means feeling in our hearts the madness and guilt of our sins. It means acknowledging those we have offended and wronged, both our fellow man and God Himself. And most importantly, it means a change in our thoughts and in our way of life, an about-face in which we utterly reject sin and embrace virtue and holiness. When we truly repent, our behavior will change. By the grace of God, we will strive to defeat our passions and act the way our Lord wants us to live. No matter how many times we fall, we need to remember to get back up and try again. We also need to learn how to forgive ourselves and others as God forgives us.
